dogtopia of San Antonio

Going on vacation? Why not treat your dog to one as well? Our friendly and attentive team will do everything possible to ensure Dogtopia feels like a home away from home for your pup. Whether you need to board your dog for an overnight stay, for the weekend, a holiday or extended care, your dog will spend their days enjoying supervised open play with their BFFFs (Best Furry Friends Forever), and their nights enjoying restful sleep.

Dogs boarding with us will enjoy a staycation, burning off any excess energy during a full day of play with our daycare dogs. Dogs are separated into supervised playrooms depending on size, play style and temperament, ensuring the comfort and safety of all our guests. They’ll enjoy 8-10 hours of open play that features brain games designed to improve manners and behavior. There will also be plenty of time for naps and breaks, should they require them. If your dog is having lunch, he/she will be fed at the start of naptime and will have plenty of time to digest their food before they are allowed to play again. This private time is also when we administer any medications, if applicable.

We use home-style crates during naptime (12 to 2 p.m.) because it gives the dogs a safe place to rest in, allows them to have some “me” time and allows the staff to safely dispense individual food for dogs who eat lunch and/or medication to each dog if applicable. Similar to children in a daycare, dogs tend to easily adapt to the naptime routine as it’s at the same time each day and all their friends are enjoying the, often much-needed, down time as well! During naptime, the staff also thoroughly cleans each playroom to ensure the room is safe and clean before another exciting round of afternoon play!

After a full day of exercise and fun, your pup will be tired but happy when they go to bed. They sleep in our home-style crates in the same room they were playing in earlier so they feel safe and comfortable. Our home-style crates are then utilized for overnight boarding

Our boarding facilities are fully equipped to handle dogs of all shapes and sizes. We encourage you to bring your pup to our location for daycare prior to an overnight or extended stay. We recommend at least one day of daycare prior to your dog’s overnight stay – three days of daycare is ideal – to allow your pup to get used to the facility and have a better overall experience. Your dog will become comfortable with our staff, and learn that you will be coming back to bring them home. It will also give our staff an opportunity to learn your pup’s personality and play preferences.

We ask that you arrive with your dog before 3 p.m. on the day they are to begin boarding. Dogs may be dropped off as early as we open.

We care about your dog’s safety and comfort. We encourage you to bring your pup’s own food to maintain their regular diet and avoid any digestion issues. You may consider bringing a little extra food for boarding as they burn a lot more calories in play than they typically do at home! If you forget your food for meals – no worries! We have in-house food for your convenience.

During their boarding stay, your dog will be fed at approximately 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with a treat or lunch at nap time if you request. Food will be served and prepared exactly as requested by each pet parent. We’ll accommodate any special dietary needs your pup may have, and won’t charge extra for feeding or administering medication.

You are encouraged to bring any bedding that will make your dog feel “at home” and we will provide it only to them. (Please remember we cannot guarantee bedding will be returned in the same condition.)

As your dog will play in an open area with other dogs, we do not accept toys from home. Your dog may feel possessive of their own toys and many are not suitable for the playroom as they are too easily torn or ripped.

After an exciting boarding stay at Dogtopia, it’s important to ensure your dog adapts well to being back home. While at Dogtopia, your dog received access to unlimited water in their playroom. However, it is still likely they will seem very thirsty upon returning home. This is a common reaction to the excitement of being back at home with their family. Please withhold water from them for the first 30 minutes that they are home. After they have calmed down from the excitement of being home, you should then give them a small bowl of water and continue to monitor their water consumption for the next few hours. Dogs that drink too much water too quickly may lead to vomiting, or in very serious cases, could lead to bloat.

We recommend waiting at least three hours from the time you arrive home to offer their next feeding. Again, they will be very happy to be home and quite excited. Similar to the side effects of drinking water too quickly, eating too quickly may cause illness.

Dogtopia is a very active environment, with the dogs interacting for several hours per day. Even if your dog did not run all day, simply being awake can make them very, very tired. At home, most dogs sleep the day away getting 18 or more hours of sleep. Although we have a two-hour nap, and the dogs sleep approximately eight hours per night, they will be tired. Please let them rest. We do not recommend that you take them to the dog park or any other social environment for at least a few days.

We’ll make sure your pup feels happy, safe and fulfilled even when you can’t be with them. Dogtopia will be their home away from home and each day will seem like the Most Exciting Day Ever.

Keeping your furry family member safe and happy is our top priority. Before your pup starts their boarding stay, a member of our team will conduct a Meet & Greet with your dog to determine if they are comfortable in our open play environment. To book the Meet & Greet, find your nearest location and follow the new pet parent page steps to schedule a Meet & Greet.
